Mexedrone
Mexedrone is a synthetic substituted cathinone1 described as a stimulant and entactogen, although anecdotal reports suggest that its effects are often mild or absent. It is closely related to mephedrone, with an additional methoxy group,1 and is reported to be substantially less potent. It appeared on the research chemical market in August 2015,1 with little documented human use before its release.

Pharmacology
Pharmacodynamics
Mexedrone weakly inhibits the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. It also acts as a weak serotonin releasing agent1, increasing serotonin availability through both release and reduced reuptake.
Pharmacokinetics
Dangerous
Highest riskThese combinations are considered extremely harmful and should always be avoided. Reactions to these drugs taken in combination are highly unpredictable and have a potential to cause death.

Harm Potential
Addiction & Dependence
Psychological
ModerateChronic mexedrone use is moderately addictive, with high abuse potential and psychological dependence in some users. Once addiction develops, stopping use abruptly may cause cravings.
Physical
Withdrawal effects may occur after abrupt discontinuation in users who have developed addiction.
Toxicity
The exact toxic dose of mexedrone is unknown.
History & Culture
Mexedrone had little to no documented history of human use before its release in August 2015 as a research chemical. It was sold online as a designer drug and primarily marketed as a legal alternative to mephedrone. It may have been developed in response to another mephedrone derivative,…
