5-MAPDB is a dihydrobenzofuran analogue of MDMA1 and has mild stimulant properties. In monoamine uptake transporter assays, it inhibited SERT in the 1–3 micromolar concentration range, similar to MDMA1 and is structurally related to 5-MAPB and 5-APDB2. The substance is suspected to carry neurotoxicity concerns similar to those associated with MDMA, although this risk remains uncertain.

Central Nervous System

Suspected neurotoxicity concerns similar to MDMA, though specific data for 5-MAPDB is not established.

History & Culture

In June 2013, the United Kingdom temporarily classified 5-MAPDB as a banned drug alongside nine related compounds. Although it had not been sold as a street drug, authorities acted preemptively because of concerns that it could produce effects similar to 5-APB, which had already been widely sold, and might otherwise become used recreationally.
