PRL-8-53 is a substituted phenethylamine1 with reported nootropic effects on retention of verbal information in humans1, with evidence of this effect coming from a single clinical study. It was first synthesized in the 1970s by medicinal chemistry professor Nikolaus Hansl at Creighton University during his work on amino ethyl meta benzoic acid esters. It reportedly has no recreational value.2

Lethal Dosage

PRL-8-53 is characterized as relatively non-toxic in animal data, with 860 mg/kg reported as the mouse oral LD50.

Doses above 8 mg/kg caused brief hypotensive effects in canines.

High doses depressed motor activity in rats and mice; the mouse ED50 for 50% motor reduction was 160 mg/kg.
