6-MAPB
6-MAPB is a benzofuran1 structurally related to 6-APB1 and MDMA. Sources also classify it as an empathogen, stimulant, and psychedelic. It was first encountered as a novel designer drug in 2013 and described in scientific literature in 2014. Its reported relationship to other benzofurans distinguishes it within this group, although its broader psychoactive classification is uncertain.

Pharmacology
Pharmacodynamics
6-MAPB is a serotonin releasing agent2 and a potent agonist at serotonin 5-HT1B receptors. This distinguishes it pharmacologically from MDMA, which is described here without the same 5-HT1B agonist activity.

ModerateClassified as habit-forming. As an empathogen-stimulant, it may carry moderate psychological addiction potential similar to related compounds.
Psychosis Risk
Visual and auditory hallucinations have been reported as negative effects, along with aggressiveness and moodiness.
History & Culture
6-MAPB was first encountered as a novel designer drug in 2013 and was described in scientific literature in 2014. It was not known to have been widely sold, but it was detected in analytical samples from people hospitalized after using combinations that included other benzofuran derivatives. The United Kingdom banned 6-MAPB in June 2013 along with nine related compounds considered likely to produce similar effects.
