Chemical Class

5-MeO-EiPT is a tryptamine1 and probable psychedelic related to EiPT, DiPT, and DET. Alexander Shulgin first described it by 2002, although he reported never making or exploring it. The compound has been detected as a designer drug1 and may produce lighter mental effects than some psychedelics. Its effects, dosage, and duration remain poorly characterized because reports and formal research are scarce.

Pharmacology

Pharmacodynamics

5-MeO-EiPT acts as a potent full agonist at the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor2. It also has high affinity for the serotonin 5-HT1A receptor and interacts very weakly with the serotonin transporter. In rodents, it produces a relatively weak head-twitch response2, along with hypothermia and hypolocomotion2; blockade of 5-HT1A receptors with WAY-100635 augments the head-twitch response2.

History & Culture

5-MeO-EiPT was first described by Alexander Shulgin by 2002. It was not included in his book *TiHKAL*; Shulgin later said he had never made or explored it and that its dose, duration, and effects were unknown. In Japan's fiscal 2008 survey, 5-MeO-EiPT was detected in one of 28 illegal-drug products purchased for testing, the liquid product Aromatherapy APPLE3.
